Unscheduled Forum Outage 14/4/2008

Sorry for the outage yesterday. It was entirely my fault.

I was trying to integrate our new billing system into TalkTalk Members and wrote a duff query on the database which ground it to a halt !

I managed to correct it but you will have seen performance gradually degrade and then become unusable.

The problems occured from about 6:00pm -> 9:20pm.

All should be fine now, I hope.

I wrote an aplication in PHP for our company, it was a stock system with a mysql back end, one saturday we were doing an audit and it was taking ages so I decided to write a query that would update ALL the items on a shelf in one go, all we had to do was barcode them in and hit submit, it worked great until somebody else further down the shelf shouted "why has all my stuff moved to shelf B7-2?", I checked the data and surely enough there was suddenly just under 8,000 items of stock on shelf B7-2. After dodging the hail of pens and an airborne barcdoe reader moving at high velocity i restored from the backup, mind you we'd lost all the stock update data from the past two days and had to start again :o but it could have ben much more disastrous.
