Hey chaps, need recommendations for sites from which to download music. Sister asked me yesterday and I must admit I am a bit stumped. Requirements are as follows

1. Must be mp3 format
2. Ideally not DRM crippled
3. Decent quality

I must admit I have no idea when it comes to the quality of music you download. My entire experience of doing so outside of itunes for my ex who had an ipod consisted of downloading 1 song from tesco which turned out to be crippled to the extent that pretty much nothing would play it. Certainly my mp3 player wouldn't. In the end I installed p2p software and downloaded the damn track from there, figuring since I had just bought it I was entitled to it.

Please, if you do not know what criteria 2 means, don't post.

Hi Squawk,
Have you tried Emusic?

EMusic is an online music store that operates by subscription. It is headquartered in New York, New York, and owned by Dimensional Associates, LLC. As of March 2007 eMusic has over 250,000 subscribers, which makes it the largest subscription-based online music store.[1]

EMusic differs from other well-known subscription music services (such as Napster and Rhapsody) in that the files available for download are in the MP3 format, making them fully compatible with all digital music players, and free from digital rights management software restrictions such as expiration dates, or copying or CD burning limitations.

Used it a few years ago when it was a few pence per track then it changed to a subscription service I think.Used to have a great selection of old blues back catalouges and was part of Universal at the time.

have a good look at the music choice before you go to the trouble of signing up.............

I had a free trial with them some months ago and struggled to use up 20 free downloads....but then I am old- you or your sister might have younger tastes in music!
