What email programs are people using?
I used to have a good one that let you click a button and send an "unknown user" response in reply to spam messages. I've no idea if it helped cut down spam or not but it was quite cool. Anyone know any current email software that does this?
I'm using and old version of Outlook just now as it's the only one my Blackberry will automatically sync with.

Does it have a calendar function like Outlook???
Couldn't really see any info on website as to whether or not?

I think it's called Lightning and you can install it as an add-in for Thunderbird. It's very good. Have a look at http://www.mozilla.org/projects/
The only reason that I don't routinely use it is that my Blackberyy mobile phone doesn't synchronise with it otherwise I would use it instead of Outlook.

Thunderbird, normally, with the Calendar add-on. However while the ongoing problems are happening I am using Outlook to connect via IMAP.

I've been unable to transfer my address book from Outlook to Thunderbird, so have been unable to evaluate properly.
Outlook is in the habit of falling over itself and having to rewrite its archive. ...and dreadfully slow to open.

Can't you just export it from outlook, and import it back into TB ?

I wish it was as simple as that.
I've tried at least 3 times, last time long enough ago to have totally forgotten how it failed, but fail it did. :(

It is that simple! At least it was for me. What format are you exporting your contacts in?

I seem to remember being asked if I wanted to import the files when I was installing the programme. It was some time ago, so can't be sure.
Perhaps I should have ignored that and imported later?
Too pushed for time to start again with it before the weekend, but any advice in the meantime would be most welcome :).

I ignored Thunderbird's offer to import the contacts from Outlook automatically while I was experimenting with it. Once I was happy with it I went back in to Outlook, exported the contacts in CSV format then opened Thunderbird and imported them. It seemed quite happy with that and I've now done that one 4 seperate laptops (not all mine!) without any problem.
If I remember rightly the only thing I had to do was go through all my contacts and change the email preference from sending emails in plain text to sending in html. That was a bit annoying and quite time consuming but there's probably a quicker way that I don't know of...

I use 'Mailwasher' which is completely free (no 30 days etc) re spam. Enables you to preview e mails on server before downloading (to Outlook Express in my case) and to delete any you dont want to download.
I liked it so much I bought the Pro version ($37 for life) which gives me the ability to 'bounce' e mails back from server as though undelivered; reduced my spam considerably as you wernt then past on from one spam to another.
Care it initially treats all mail to be 'blacklisted' till you change to 'friend' for future

Thanks for the informations. I'll try again when I've got a moment. It would be good to see the end of Outlook :)
