Email fails to send: Socket Error: 10053

Print E-mail

If you are using a router and getting the problem below sending e-mails from Windows

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'error code', Account: 'mail.talktalk.net', Server:
'smtp.talktalk.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F"

You may have an incorrect MTU setting on your router. Your MTU should be 1432 and your MSS should be set to 0 (zero) or auto adjust.

A too large MTU value can cause the messages to get discarded in the network.
