SmartAX MT882 indicator light meanings

The SmartAX MT882 ADSL Modem has 5 lights on its front panel which are useful in diagnosing problems when connecting to the internet.

Here are what those lights mean

Power None Off Modem Off
Power Green Solid Modem On
       
Link None Off No ADSL Signal  being received
Link Green Flashing Have ADSL signal but attempting to Sync
Link Green Solid Have ADSL signal and have attained Sync
Link Amber Flashing Attempting to login to broadband
Link Amber Solid Have signal, sync acheived and logged in ... ie ONLINE
       
Act None Off Broadband connection idle
Act Green Flashing Broadband connection in use 
       
LAN None Off LAN connection not active 
LAN Green Solid LAN Connection at 10Mbps 
LAN Amber Solid LAN Connection at 100Mbps
LAN Any Flashing LAN Connection in use at speed indicated by colour
       
USB None Off USB Connection not active
USB Green Solid USB Connected to computer (or ethernet mode with G.dmt)
USB Green Flashing USB Connection in use

 

Note: NEVER connect both the USB and Ethernet cables to the same PC as this may terminally damage the device.

Note: When using an Ethernet cable and the modem has "G.dmt" or "Multimode" mode as its ADSL connection method then the USB light may come on  This behaviour has been observed on models with the Batch ID RCC1P2.021.E3755 (reported on the System Information page). Although confusing there appears to be no other side effects and the unit works fine.
