Earlier this month a number of TalkTalk customers posting and reviewing topics on the TalkTalkMembers forum helped us highlight and identify an issue with streaming online content using the Huawei EchoLife HG520s wireless router. Based on investigations carried out initially on the TalkTalkMembers forums, Huawei were able to come up with a simple script to change a setting in the configuration file of the wireless router and stop the buffering problem. This optimisation will have no adverse side-effects on any other type of Internet usage; browsing, emailing, chatting, gaming. The software fix runs under Windows® and works solely with the Huawei EchoLife HG520s wireless router.
In addition to optimising your wireless router for fast, unbuffered downloads, we thought it would be a good idea to run general health and wireless security checks (did you know that it is estimated that more than 70% of people now connect wirelessly, and that at half of you don't have adequate wireless security!?). With this in mind, we've produced an unofficial TalkTalkMembers optimiser which does a few little extras. For example, it will analyse your wifi setup and give you advice about how to ensure your security is as good as it can be.
The obvious answer is to try streaming and downloading and see the difference! The frustrating buffering and pausing of content will stop straight away. Additionally, if you try the unofficial fix, the success of each check and change is indicated.
Going forward this fix will be built into all newly shipped HG520 wireless routers. TalkTalk have asked us to pass on their sincere thanks to the forum members!

Download the version of the TalkTalk Official HG520 Optimiser you require, ensure your wireless router is connected and simply run the program to fix streaming issues!
